The first annual Getaway Games fundraiser event in Oswego is complete and was a huge success. 10 teams showed up on Memorial Day weekend to be a gamer. Host coach of Oswego East Basketball, Jason Buckley and his squad, Pete Rose's Last Bet were the overall champions while The Crack Attack and Old School were just behind. Elbert Choi took the MVG title by placing 1st in Softball and 2nd in Hold'em. We had several records broken including the Sure Shot individual round and total. More on that in the Sure Shot details. The event was a long day that received rave reviews. Hopefully Oswego East benefited from this event and we can continue partnering with them going forward!

Bowling Summary:
|
Bowling was not one of the strong points in this event. Darren DeGroff led the Spider Monkey's to the title by bowling 455 series which was 2nd best in GG history. The Spider Monkey's finished with a 1312 (7th all time) followed up by Pete Rose's Last Bet and Ass Kickers. The guys all had a blast and Parkside Lanes was more than accommodating.

16 inch HR Derby Summary:
|
The seemed to be one of the favorite events for the group. The wind started out blowing lightly to right but by the end of the day it was swirling a bit and had some gusts that went out to left on occasion. The HR Derby was dominated by baseball phenoms, The Crack Attack. They scored a 249 total (3rd all time) and were led by Todd Crackel who put up an impressive 95 (5th all time). In 2nd was DG Ballas followed up by Pro Team Golden Magnum. Elbert Choi put on a show in his individual performance hitting some absolute bombs. Choi finished with 109 (3rd all-time) and was being questioned for his alleged steroid usage! Look out, in year two Choi gives all-time leader Justin Carley a serious run for that #1 all-time record.

Basketball Sure Shot Summary:
|
Oswego has some ballers. That is for sure. The current Oswego East senior basketball studs took this competition thanks in large part to Zach Pearson. NITS finished with 356 (4th all-time) while DG Ballas were at 355 in 2nd place. Old School rounded out the top 3.
As for individuals, Al Navata of Old School set the pace early by breaking the previous record and putting up a 145. Not long after, Zach Pearson broke the record again scoring a 155. Look for Sure Shot to be very competitive again next year.

Golf Summary:
|
It was a beautiful day on the links. The teams didn't shoot all that well - or maybe it was a tough course? Regardless, 4 teams finished at -7 with Pete Rose's Last Bet taking the tiebreaker. Rumor has it the beer record for one golf round was broken by an unnamed team. Golf was quite slow but at least it as a nice day.

Texas Hold'em Summary:
|
Dinner was served and prizes were awarded from the Prize Vault. Next came Hold'em. This was one of the longest hold'em games we have seen as players were being quite stingy with their chips. The current #1 gamer from the event got knocked out VERY FIRST, which opened the MVG door for many others. After many expletives, beer spills and all-in moments, it came down to Elbert Choi and Mike Adams. They went back and forth and back and forth. Finally, Elbert conceded and Mike went away with the 1st place. Old School won the hold'em tournament followed by Pete Rose's Last Bet and The Crack Attack.
