Normal Event Final Registration Deadline is TUE, July 31
I know several of you are still putting your team together or tossing around the idea of playing in the first ever Getaway Games in Normal on August 4th. Well, a less than a week from today, Tuesday, July 31 is the final deadline to register for this event. The good news is - we have plenty of tshirts for the event and teams that sign up now still will get one. We still have a free agent or two waiting to play so if you don’t have a full team - send us an email and we’ll match you up! The event is wide open for a winner to come in and grab the $800 worth of StubHub gift certificates!!! Win those and go to the world series, march madness, whatever! Now the better news, we are going to offer a last week promotion. Any team that signs up between now and July 31st will receive $100 off team entry. So the per person entry fee is just $100. This includes two games of bowling, softball, basketball, 18 holes of golf (including cart), dinner, texas hold’em tourney, tshirt, other giveaways, tons of prize opportunities, and best of all - a DAY TO GETAWAY AND ENJOY SPORTS! Print out the registration form and send it via mail (be sure to send by THIS FRIDAY)
If you know a Getaway Games representative - get the registration form to that person somehow
Softball Rule Changes
We communicated part of this in an earlier email but wanted to send out one last refresher on the changes that were made to softball. There were two significant changes made after the Pekin event.1) ALL 4 PLAYERS WILL NOW HIT - yep, you got it. In Pekin only 3 could hit and one was the all-time pitcher. Now all four will have to hit so your team will have 8 rounds of scores that count towards the total team score. Why did we make this change? We had a lot of feedback from teams that played saying that nobody wanted to be the pitcher because it eliminated them automatically from the "all-gamer" teams and "MVG" contention. Also, in the rest of the sports we don't drop any low scores or allow anyone NOT to participate - so softball is now the same.
2) SOFTBALL NOW HAS 5 TIERS INSTEAD OF 3 - in Pekin we only had 3 tiers of homeruns set at 180-200-220 worth 1-2-3 points. Now that all four people have to hit, we envision more people struggling to even get one HR at 180. So, we are adding two shorter tiers and assigning the points as follows:
Tier 1: 140 ft. for 1 point
Tier 2: 160 ft. for 2 points
Tier 3: 180 ft. for 3 points
Tier 4: 200 ft. for 4 points
Tier 5: 220 ft. for 5 points
This doesn't really change the competition at all. All it does is allow the weaker softball players to actually score some points and help the team. The big softball people will score even more points. Lastly, the Pekin softball scores will be converted to this new scoring system to stay somewhat consistent.
Getaway Games in the Media
We have had several nice media spots recently. Including pantagraph articles and ads, WJBC radio interview, commercials on Insight, Pekin Times articles and much more.
